Go To Nations is a mission sending agency that partners with churches across the United States and around the world to mobilize the body of Christ to fulfill the Great Commission Mandate. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus leaves his final instructions to His church by saying, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you.” To fulfill this mission, we must all partner together to spread the good news of the Kingdom until every tribe, every tongue and every nation hears.
What is a short-term mission?
Go To Nations has developed a comprehensive training program to help churches establish effective, life changing mission programs and to help leaders identify those that are called to be a cross cultural missionary within their congregations. 87% of those that are called to full time mission service discover that calling through short-term missions. Short-term missions are 7-21 days and are conducted in a variety of locations around the world where an established long-term missionary is serving. The short-term missionary will join the long-term missionary in a variety of community transformation projects that are unique to the needs of the country where they will be serving.
How do short-term missions help the local church?
Short-term missions are a vital part of fulfilling the Great Commission and spreading the Gospel around the world. Those that have experienced a short-term mission return changed and energized with a new excitement and passion to serve. Short-term missions increases faith and reliance on God, awakens the empowerment of the Holy Spirit and activates the participation of the whole church. Those that are going, share their excitement to serve and make a difference. That gives the congregation the opportunity to give and become the sending force behind the individual or team. Everything the team accomplishes is also credited to those that sow and the whole body is edified. The church can then tangibly see their resources at work and know that they helped make a difference in the lives of those who went and those they ministered to. Partnerships between the local church, the long-term missionary, and the people group ministered to are established and can lead to continual ministry and a long term vision. All of this increases a global awareness of how God is moving. Churches then see an increase in overall giving and participation within the church and their community, knowing that they can make a lasting difference in the world.
