Are Twelve Stones so Vital?

Joshua and all of Israel were camping on the opposite side of the Jordan River with the Promised Land in plain sight.  The only thing separating them from entering in was the wide swollen river in flood stage! The Commander-in- Chief gave Joshua very specific instructions  for the Levitical priests carrying the precious Ark of the Covenant.  When the priests stepped into the dangerous waters they were to stand still and watch as the Lord cut off the waters down below and caused those flowing from above to stand up in a heap.  God promised that that He would do wonders among them and would exalt Joshua in the sight of Israel!

Once all of Israel had crossed over on dry land, twelve chosen men heaved heavy stones onto their shoulders from the very spot where the priests stood on dry land in the middle of the Jordan.  These memorial stones were then carried some distance to their lodging place for the night (Gilgal).  Joshua also commanded that twelves stones be set up in the place where the priests feet had stood in the river bed.  These stones in the Jordan and at Gilgal were to be a sign among them, a memorial to the sons of Israel forever. (Joshua 4:7)

He said to the sons of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, “What are these stones?” then you shall inform your children, saying. “Israel crossed on dry ground.”  For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed, just as the Lord your God had done to the Red Sea, which He had dried up before us until we had crossed; that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, so that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”  Joshua 4: 21-24

These stones taken from the very epicenter of God’s miraculous move were put on display for generations to come as a testimony of the greatness of God, His faithfulness to His Word and His mighty power on behalf of His children.  They cried out to passersby that nothing was impossible for God.  These stones stood as a perpetual invitation to acknowledge and testify of God’s mighty acts that all the peoples of the earth might know His might.

This same mighty, loving God moves throughout the earth today and among us.  He is asking us, "Where are the stones testifying of My goodness and power? "  This issue is dedicated to testifying of God's hand moving on behalf of Go To Nations missionaries.  We asked the regional directors to gather stones from their areas of the world -Stones of Remembrance - from 2016 that we might rejoice together and believe our God for greater things in 2017.

The Stones of Remembrance in this newsletter are just a small sample of the vast things our God has done through Go To Nations around the world in 2016. Space does not suffice to include more and many are too sensitive to be published.   We encourage you to take time in your regions to remember, chronicle and testify to one another of God's greatness.  You see, your stones taken from the epicenter of God's move are truly vital to giving God the glory He deserves and to making accessible the One True God to the ends of the earth.

God bless and prosper you as you gather your stones,

Kathie Barousse
