It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Galatians 5:1 (NIV)
This verse says that Jesus died for us so that we could be free. It tells us to be strong, stand firm in what He has done for us and to not allow ourselves to be weighed down by a bondage to rules and regulations. His desire is for us to live free!
I used to believe that God’s greatest desire for me was to keep me safe. About 2 months ago, I was heartbroken to find out that I was miscarrying. I was having complications miscarrying naturally at home and had to go to the hospital here in Honduras to have a D&C. It was my first experience being treated in a hospital outside of the US and I was frightened. I was heartbroken, confused, and overwhelmed by the situation. I prayed earnestly to God to heal me and save me from having to go to the hospital.
The Lord spoke to me with a gentle voice and allowed me to see that His greatest desire is for me to live free. I was afraid to go to the hospital in Honduras. He was freeing me from fear. I did not want to lose another baby and fail as wife and mother. He was freeing me from a false identity and ungodly beliefs. Sometimes getting freedom doesn’t look like being prayed for and suddenly not struggling with a sin. Sometimes getting freedom means going through a battle afraid, but trusting in God and coming out on the other side with wisdom and truth only learned through the experience.
As you face trials and struggles in your life, ask God to show you any area where he wants to bring freedom. God loves us and wants us to live free. Free of sickness, free of ungodly expectations, free of false identities, free of fear, free of anything and everything that hold us back from being the person He has created us to be. Then place your trust and faith in Him to give you the victory in your situation and surrender to the work He may be wanting to do in you.
Prayer: Lord, I pray for missionaries who may be walking through a trial or a struggle right now. Reveal any area to them where You desire freedom. Open their eyes to see the work You are wanting to do in them and give them the strength and courage to place their trust in You. Protect them from the plans of the enemy and guard their hearts from despair. Give missionaries freedom to be themselves as You have made them to be and the boldness to continue their call.
